  6. **IB level languages are only available at Washington Liberty High School.
  7. In some instances, where enrollment is low, high school Arabic and Chinese courses may be available only at ACC. In this instance, students taking these courses travel to ACC. Transportation is provided.
  8. APS students who demonstrate strong proficiency in one or more foreign languages may earn up to 4 credits (Level 1-4) by participating successfully in the Credit by Exam. Please see https://www.apsva.us/curriculum/world-languages/ for more information. Duplicate credits not allowed.
  9. In some instances, languages may be available only through virtual courses by outside providers. Virtual courses offered by providers elsewhere in the state or in the country have policies for grading, homework and attendance that may differ from those of APS.
  10. Students seeking the Advanced Studies diploma will meet the world language requirements by completing three years/levels of study in one language or two years of study in each of two languages. Successful completion of each world language course results in one credit toward the Advanced Studies diploma. Additional sequential language courses beyond these requirements count as elective credits and fulfill the sequential elective requirement.
  11. Upper-level language courses offer the opportunity to earn eligibility for the Seal of Biliteracy.
  12. Many colleges require continued world language study throughout high school. If your student completes three years of language study by the end of freshman year, review specific language requirements for their prospective colleges.
